Nothing fires up the radical right like homophobia and racism. Could this be the root of immigration debate 2006?

Progressive political punditry, scathing social commentary, Wit-n-hyperbole, awesome pics and good gossip. Also a resource for New Jersey voters.

I don't get it. Are there droves of gays illegally immigrating to our country???
I worked on Clinton's 1992 Campaign in direct response to the gay-bashing of the previous Bush Administration. What I got for my efforts was "Don't Think, Don't Breath" (Don't Ask, Don't Tell), and the signature of the president I helped elect on the original "Defense of Marriage Act".
Bigotry is like pregnancy... it doesn't come in degrees. Watch close as the votes are cast in June and see how many Democrats support this new round of anti-gay marriage laws.

Agreed -- the Dems are less bad.
But who sponsored the "English-only" amendment that passed the Senate yesterday? More importantly, why was it thrown in our faces yesterday? Wasn't the stupid Flag Burning Amendment enough? At least the Senate is focusing on the important things.
And give Reid credit for calling a turdblossom exactly that yesterday -- the whole thing reeks of racism.
A rational and fair application of the "English-only" laws would boot Bush out of the country.
Good post Jay! I've got a new diary on My Left Wing if you're in the mood to recommend. Here is the link.

Wow I am so nonpolitical which is odd since i am a history teacher.
It's just like the 2004 presidential campaign again - it's all about "fears and smears".
Love this.
