Birthday, party down

I turn a very grown-up sounding 34 today. Thank God it's not one of those milestone years like thirty or forty which tend be be awash in melancholia. If it weren't for the fact that I keep rupturing Achilles tendons, getting older is great. I woudn't trade the wrinkles and peace of mind of today for the fearlessness of youth at this point. Ask me again at fifty.

Also turning a year older on this day: fellow Hoosier Janet Jackson (Miss Jackson if you're nasty....), tennis starlet Gabriela Sabatini and the late, great Henry Fonda.

Today is also primary election day is many places including the commonwealth of Pennslyvania which lies 7 miles away (as the crow flies) across the Deleware River. If you live in PA, for pete's sake go vote!

Well my wishes for the Happiest Birthday Ever to you, Buddy! Go live it up with all you've got. You only get one chance to be as old as you are now!!

My sweetheart gets depresseed every time his birthday rolls around...any ideas how to snap him out of it?

I don't mind getting older in numbers...but I do mind the fact that my job has turned me into an old woman....I go to bed by 10:30 everynight (even weekends) because I just can't stay up late anymore when I have to be up at 5am every day.

Happy Birthday, Jay! Liberace and Tori Spelling were also born on May 16th. And the first Academy Awards were held on May 16, 1929. A very important day indeed! :-)

Hey, pal o' mine! Mind if I chime in a few days late? Happy Birthday!

Back in 1996, when you were 24 and I was 34, you took me to meet a friend of yours who was 31 and working as a call boy on 19th Street in DC. (It was NOT a business visit!) I don't know if you'll remember but the three of us discussed ages and aging and he said he regarded the future with nothing but dread. I suspected then that you might be thinking the same way.

It means everything to me that you can now face the good and the bad, that you've found your voice and use it to make a difference for the better, for yourself and others, and that you can generally relish your life. It gets more and more precious as it passes, and much of that is because friendships become richer and, given an open mind, a person's perspective expands with age.

I love you tons! All health and happiness at 34!
--Pat P.S. Call me on my birthday, which is Sunday!

Happy belated.

I ruptured my achillies tendon when I was 29, my daughter was a newborn. I was playing touch football in the street. Took one step forward and SNAP. Fun. Eight months before I could walk without any assistance. My wife was thrilled.
